Job Informatio Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute – Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.

The Program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research activities. Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill a vacant position based at RAKAI HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM- Kalisizo, Rakai district as indicated below:-
Clinical Officer (7 Positions) One year contract
Reporting to: Study or Services Supervisor
Job purpose:
To provide support to the study or services supervisor in medical assessment of participants, collecting important clinical details, performing clinical examinations and relevant tests and performing follow up data collection in the clinic/field.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collection of qualitative and quantitative data by administering study or service a questionnaire or using electronic methods.
• Provision of health education to potential participants (as guided by standard operating procedures (SOP)).
• Seeking informed consent from potential participants (as per informed consent SOP).
• Collection of data and biological specimens as well as proper labeling and handling of data forms and specimens as per pertinent SOPs.
• Clinical evaluation and care of participants in consultation with study physicians and offer pre-test counseling to the respondents in the study communities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• The successful candidate should have a Diploma in clinical medicine and public health from a reputable institution.
• Possess a valid registration with the relevant licensing body
• Working experience of at least 1 year in a reputable healthy organization is an added advantage
• Certificates in good clinical practice and Human subjects Protection, experience conducting research and HIV care work is added advantage but not a requirement.
• Ability to ride a motorcycle within the study or service areas of Rakai district is an added advantage.
• Willingness to reside in Rakai district.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Fluent in Luganda the local language
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
Registered Comprehensive Nurse / Registered Nurse  (6 Positions) One year Contract
Reporting to: Study or service Supervisor
Job purpose:
To provide support to the study services supervisor in medical assessment of participants, collecting important clinical details, performing clinical examinations and relevant tests and performing follow up data collection in the clinic/field
Duties:
• Carrying out respondents clinical assessment and completing the form (as per SOPs)
• Provision of health education to potential study participants.
• Seeking informed consent from potential study participants
• Collection of data and biological specimens as well as proper labeling and handling of data forms and specimens as pertinent SOPs
• Collection of quantitative and qualitative data by use of an administered questionnaires
• Collection for biological samples for lab. Tests and analysis
• Carryout a census of all study participants in all study communities
• Providing treatment to respondents
• Clinical evaluation and care of participants in consultation with study physicians.
• Follow up study participants
  Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Successful candidates should have a Diploma in General Nursing/Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing from a reputable institution
• Working experience of at least 2 years in a reputable health organization
• Certificates in Good clinical practice and Human subjects Protection, plus experience doing research related work is an advantage but not a requirement.
• Willingness to work and reside in a rural setting – Rakai District.
Enrolled Nurse (Several positions – One year contract)
  Reporting to: Study or services Supervisor
 Job purpose:
To provide support to the study or services supervisor in collecting important clinical details from study participants and data collection in the clinic/field sites.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide medical care to patients or study participants
• Carrying out Census at household level
• Administer study consent to study participants
• Conduct health education and deliver research or service related information to the study participants.
• Screen, enroll, take medical history and examine eligible participants.
• Complete study documents (Source documents and/or Case report forms) for the study participants.
• Collect blood samples/specimen appropriately and deliver them for testing to central lab in Kalisizo.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• The successful candidate should have a certificate in general enrolled nursing from a reputable institution.
• Working experience of at least 6 months in a reputable healthy organization an added advantage
• Certificates in Good clinical practice and Human subjects Protection, experience in conducting research related and HIV care is an advantage but not a requirement.
• Possess a valid registration with the relevant licensing body
• Ability to ride a motorcycle with in study and service areas of Rakai district an added advantage.
• Willingness to reside in Rakai district.

Health Educator/ Field Officer – Stylish Man Campaign  (2 positions) One year Contract
Reporting to: Health Education supervisor/ Stylish Man Project Coordinator
Location: Kalisizo Field Station -Rakai Uganda
Job responsibilities;
• Plan, organize and implement the “Stylish Man” Campaign Field Activities.
• Distribute as well reconcile stock for the Campaign materials/ Supplies.
• Closely work with the community resource persons and the local campaign organizing committee to arrange community events like; the “Man van” Activation visits, film shows, drama sows and men contents/competitions.
• Conduct on-going documentation of campaign activities, including but not limited to capturing project success stories, campaign activities and progress reports.
• Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the Campaign coordinator on the ongoing communication campaign activities.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Campaign Coordinator
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Minimum of a Diploma in Humanities with special training in Health Education, Community mobilization, Advocacy and/or Public relations or in a related field. Minimum 3 years working experience in the field of Health Communication, Public relations, Community mobilization or Advocacy. Fluent in English and Luganda.
• Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, including presentations at professional and community forums.
• Fluent in English and Luganda both written and spoken.
• Experience in implementing communication and community mobilization campaigns.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team oriented environment.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities.
• A Valid riding permit is an added advantage
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills; self driven with a high sense of quality and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Strong internet and computer skills, including sound knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to work and reside in a rural setting – Rakai District.
• Willing and ready to work for long hours.
